1st Annual Resilience of a Women GBV Awareness Conference

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

The Inaugural Annual Resilience of a Women Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Awareness Conference took place on December 7th, 2019, at the Ebenezer Prayer Centre in Umlazi Township. Originally intended to be held at the Umlazi AA Community Hall, the event's venue was shifted to the nearby church due to ongoing renovations at the hall.

The conference brought together a diverse range of impactful discussions centered around the theme of resilience. Four distinguished speakers addressed critical topics including Depression, Domestic Abuse, SAPS (South African Police Service) Domestic Abuse Assistance, and SAPS Children's Safety Assistance. The intention was to empower attendees with knowledge, resources, and support networks to combat gender-based violence.

The event wasn't solely focused on information; it also featured elements of entertainment. A live band and a guest artist graced the occasion, providing moments of enjoyment and relaxation for the attendees.

What makes the success of this conference even more remarkable is that it was accomplished without major sponsorship or funding. The Eyomphakathi Foundation demonstrated tremendous dedication and resourcefulness in organizing and executing the event. Donations played a pivotal role in bringing the conference to fruition. Generous contributions were received from Eyamandayi Consulting, Khwiki Construction Services, and the attendees themselves.

This event stands as a testament to the community's commitment to addressing and raising awareness about gender-based violence. It underscores the power of collaboration, determination, and a shared goal in driving positive change.
